Pivoting Business Model and Sticking to Our Roots

A Discussion with the Hermanos Brothers

In a recent live discussion, the Santos brothers – Dennis, Francisco, and Javi – talked about their journey developing their mobile card game, worMoon: Awakening. They discussed their decision to stick to their roots, their pivot in the business model, the industry’s need for change, and their passion for creating a memorable gaming experience.

Dennis Santos opened the discussion by introducing the focus of the conversation: the heavy pivot that was made at the end of last year. They initially followed a common business model for mobile games; one that involved ads and microtransactions. However, they realized this model did not reflect who they are as developers and players. They made the challenging decision to remove all ads and microtransactions and stick to a premium version of worMoon: Awakening that will be released worldwide soon.

Francisco talked about the need for players to feel that their game purchases are worth the investment, and their desire to provide an ethical approach to game development. Their goal with worMoon is to create a game that’s easy to get into, yet provides fast, strategic decision-making that’s crucial to the gameplay. They have improved animations, damage, and feedback, making the game more engaging and satisfying for players.

Javi, the youngest of the brothers, shared his experience of being a young person unable to afford mobile games, but loving PlayStation games. He talked about how they want to create a game that respects the player’s time and money which led them to offer a demo of worMoon. This way, prospective players can try it out, and if they like it, they can choose to support the developers by buying the full game. He also mentioned his passion for world-building, promising a game world that’s immersive, rich in lore, and approachable for casual players.

The Santos brothers are proud of the game they are creating and are excited to share it with the world. They are committed to providing a full gaming experience that respects the player’s time, money, and love for gaming. As they stated, they are sticking to what they love and believe that’s the way forward in game development.

New music variations 🔊

2024-03-01T00:20:45+00:00

Hello dreamers,

I am very excited to show you some of the stuff that I’ve been working on these past few months. It’s been a lot of work, a lot of all nighters, singing in the shower, dreaming about my music, it’s been crazy, but, I think ultimately, you will enjoy this experience.

So, first, we have a new ambiance music, which is gonna be playing when you fight the new mini mobs that are found in the game. One of them has recently been revealed in our Instagram, so go check it out HERE.

This ambiance music is made to prepare you for the battle ahead.

Second, we have improved music for the enemies that you’ll know, whether you love them or hate them. I think you’ll get a nice fresh perspective, even for those who played the early access, this will not be the same experience, so I hope you enjoy this!

Third, we have new music for enraged versions of enemies. I’m not gonna give too many details, I just want to surprise you once you’re playing the game.

Finally, I just wanna say that we have been working on improving other music in the game and adding new tracks that you have never heard. I invite you to play worMoon Awakening and get the full experience. We’ve been working pretty hard, and are very passionate about this project. We hope all of you like this experience so we can keep making games for you.

All right, bye dreamers!

worMoon Awakening | Feedback in action

Changelog v1.0.72024-03-01T00:24:23+00:00

Changelog v1.0.6

2024-03-01T00:24:58+00:00

Thank you for all the feedback we have received. Some of the changes described here were included thanks to you.

  • When you start the adventure mode, you were always free to choose in which biome to start. But now the first biome that shows in screen is randomly selected.
  • In adventure mode the enemies in each biome are now random, that will refresh your visit to each biome.
  • In the previous release we added the possibility to add turns to damage over time actions like Burn, Concussion and Bleed. But now, if you the damage over time action already has 3 turns and you apply 1 more action of the same type, it explodes and does massive damage.
  • Now if you apply a damage over time action, your attacks of the same damage type to more damage. Example: If you apply burn, all your fire attacks will do more damage. But beware, this applies also to you.
  • We added new feedback when you receive damage or heal :D.
  • Now the chef only offers health upgrade dishes.
  • Fixed a couple of bugs in Adventure Mode that randomly appeared to some players.
  • Fixed a bug on the forge that appeared only to some players when choosing to craft multiple items at once.
  • Fixed a bug that only was registered in the background on the game intro

  • Fixed an issue that enabled leaving empty spaces in deck name
  • Now if you close your deck in the observatory the deck name is saved. Previously the name was saved only if you tapped the save icon
  • After last chance was enabled some action status were stuck in the player inventory
  • Some VFX in card upgrade were changed for a more smooth effects. And a tooltip was added when an upgrade was successful or unsuccessful
  • There was an error with the nav buttons that got stuck in their active state
  • Now when you apply a DoT action like burn, and you reapply them on the next turn, you don’t loose that action, now you add an additional turn to the currently applied burn.
